I am writing  about this because we are from the same prefecture. Actually she is from a place, near my hometown, which called Servia. I am so proud!!!

According to the PappasPost, Greek Australian singer-songwriter Vassy made her Billboard chart debut this week with her solo single We Are Young – the title track of National TV adverts for Chevrolet and Skechers, as well as the trailer track for the new Tina Fey movie Admission.

Vassy’s popular single (a remix from Grammy-nominated Dave Aude) shot to No. 1 of the Billboard Club Chart on February 19 and made her the first Australian and the first Greek ever to soar to the top of the Dance/Club Play Songs tally.

Vassy (born Vasiliki Karagiorgos), whose Greek Australian background is unique as her voice, is deftly talented at penning strong lyrics that convey her own positive and uplifting attitude towards life – immediately transporting her  fans to a happier place.

«Growing up in a remote part of Australia has really made me the person I am today,” she says. “I’m proud to be Australian – we know the true meaning of hard work! It’s definitely the reason why I am where I am today. Australian culture teaches you to work hard and never give up. It can sometimes seem as if we’re slightly isolated from the rest of the world – so we really had to think outside the box to make things happen.”

Vassy, who is now based in Los Angeles, is a first generation Greek from Darwin (the tropical capital of Australia’s Northern Territory). She fell in love with the rhythmic, smoky voice of Billie Holiday at a young age and moved to the United States to pursue her dream of becoming a musician.

«She was my pure inspiration» Vassy says. «I heard this voice on a Darwin community radio station and it immediately caught my attention. She evoked emotion within me, something that resonated so strongly – and I became passionate about her and American culture through her music.»

Vassy, who didn’t make the school choir (she was told she couldn’t sing) was discovered in 2003 after winning an Australian radio contest. She immediately signed with Warner Brothers in Australia.

In May 2012, Vassy released her new album Beautiful Day. «The album is quirky, it’s very uplifting,» says Vassy, whose music has been featured on hit television shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Ugly Betty
