In 1986, the owner of Santa Marina Resort & Villas having purchased a house on the island a few years prior, noticed an increase in tourism to Mykonos and decided to build a number of high-end bungalows in the island’s traditional Cycladic style.
Exclusive to Greece and characteristic of Mykonos, this renowned, striking architecture was developed around 5,000 years ago due to the islands’ limited supply of construction materials and as a means of resisting the region’s strong winds. Distinguished by whitewashed walls and low storied buildings, Cycladic structures harmonize with the rolling landscape and stunningly accentuate the incandescent azure sea.
These ten bungalows became the very first luxury hotel on the island. Over the next 20 years, the hotel has expanded to include 100 rooms, suites, and villas with private pools.
