Paros, through the eyes of a dopios

Paros is one of the many beautiful islands of Greece. It belongs to Cyclades, a complex of about 220 islands, most of them non-inhabited. Located in the middle of South Aegean sea and to the west of the island of Naxos, from which it is separated by a water channel around 8 km wide, Paros is home to approximately 15,000 people with many thousands of tourists visiting, every year.

Historically, Paros was known for its fine white marble, which gave rise to the term “Parian” to describe marble or china of similar qualities. Today, abandoned marble quarries and mines can be found on the island, but Paros is primarily known as a popular tourist spot.

Reached either by plane or ferry, Paros is relatively close to the mainland becoming a quite popular destination for both Greeks and foreigners. The capital of Paros is Parikia, which is located on the North West side of the island and was built on the same site where the ancient city and capital used to stand. At about 10 kilometers east from Parikia, in a huge bay at the north part of the island, the beautiful picturesque fishing village of Naoussa is located, which especially during summer time becomes THE place to be!!

The greatest experience of all however is to feel like a real traveler and set off to explore the many other amazing villages and not so well-known beaches one can find in Paros. Think about renting a scooter, a quad or buggy and start exploring. By getting to see all the great beauties of Paros, you get to meet different people who are happy to share with you their very own personal stories…

…Visit Lefkes, walk around the narrow little alleys and reach the big church at the top of the village…

…Go to Piso Livadi and enjoy your coffee or drink or taste the fresh fish and the various Greek mezedes at the little taverns, by the small port…

So many things to see and do, so many people to meet, so many different tastes to try out…don’t miss it! Reach out to a local/dopios (as it is called in Greek) and get fresh ideas and suggestions on things to do. Is it outdoors? Is it nightlife? Is it water sports or food? You name it! Just find the right person to connect to and let your holidays begin!!
