The Maxibasketball was created in 1969 in Argentina, when a group of ex-players participated in an exhibition game. The idea spread fastly throughout America and Europe and then in the other continents.
After holding several national and continental tournaments, it was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1991, the first Maxibasketball World Championship, and the Maxibasketball International Federation was created.
Understanding the importance of the sport continuity in the human being’s life, the world interest for this category and the way the Federation realizes its work of organizing, promoting and directing the Maxibasketball practice, have contributed to the important growth of this sport in the world, proved by the last Maxibasketball Championship held in July 2009 in Prague, when 160 teams and 2.500 athletes and directors have participated.
The international maxibasketball has broken the geographical limitations and has approximated people from all the continents. The practice of this sport by athletes of advanced ages has surpassed the limits imposed by the mind.
