A new gastronomy portal from EE: discover exciting food events during your holidays!

On the occasion of the opening of the International Tourism Fair in Milan (BIT), European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani presented few days ago a new European gastronomy portal, which lists food fairs and festivals in Europe. www.tastingeurope.com!

I am a big fan of European cuisine and I am convinced that this new European web portal will gain many satisfied customers. Synergies between the two sectors will benefit both, gastronomy and tourism. The success of European tourism is also based on its capacity to innovate, to diversify its offers, to open new markets and to attract new clients, which in turn can strengthen the tourism sector and lead to more jobs, said Antonio Tajani, European Commission Vice-President

There is no more delicious way to experience the soul of European culture, history and traditions than through its food. As you travel through Europe, you will find numerous gastronomic fairs, festivals and trails to taste the unique local products and dishes. Are you planning your holidays in Europe and are keen to know which food fairs and festivals will be around?

A new gastronomic portal, which went online, enables visitors to do just that. Thanks to the cooperation between the European Commission and the European Travel Commission, the organization which embodies European national tourism offices, tourists now have a new tool to better plan their holidays. Tourism destination managers, on the other side, will get better visibility for their food events by uploading information about them on the portal.

According to the last United Nations World Tourism Organisation global report, food tourism is an emerging phenomenon due to the fact that over a third of tourist spending is devoted to food. One of the aims of the new portal is to help destinations and tourism companies better more aware of the importance of gastronomy in diversifying tourism and stimulating local, regional and national economic development.

Notice: Small pies (Kalitsounia) with spinach among Traditional Dishes on tastingeurope.com

As it says, Greek Crete Island is very famous because of its traditional “Kalitsounia”, which are small pies that can be filled with different fillings, such as cheese or greens. This unique delicacy is served across the entire island. Traditional Cretan handmade dough brings together another traditional ingredient, the “tsikoudia”. This is a typical Cretan liquor made from a grape which grows on this Greek island.
