Dolce & Gabbana’s latest looks take inspiration from Byzantine religious art and classic couture!

According to the Pappaspost, Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana unveiled their latest fall/winter 2013 collection on the penultimate day of Milan Fashion Week on February 24,  Their golden Byzantine inspired gowns and dresses in mosaic patterned silk – some even depicting an iconic image of a saint – and necklaces featuring a large Byzantine cross, heavy pendant earrings and velvet pumps with a thick jewel-encrusted heel (as described by the Associated Press) – stole the show.

Designers Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce brought the mosaics and frescoes of Byzantium to life with their dresses. According to Vogue, they incarnated icons and saints – the models themselves being turned into them with little princess and queen crowns atop their heads – on easy, loose tunics that were rich in pigment colours: red, green, blue, golden yellow – and which came worn with rosary beads.

The New York Times reported on how Dolce and Gabbana have never before featured their Sicilian landscape so overtly as in this show.
