“This is My Athens” is the continuation of the very popular and successful “This is Athens” campaign. The campaign created the first-ever real-time photostream documenting daily life in Athens. Every day, Athenian locals posted hundreds of photographs taken by them of “their” city. The campaign received thousands of tweets and shares on facebook and twitter and contributed greatly to the image of this contemporary urban, historic and culturally-rich city we know as Athens.

Now, we are getting even cooler and even more personal with “This is My Athens,” our visitor greeter program, designed to give you the insider’s edge of our city with an Athens Local. Chosen by us and just for you.

“This is My Athens” is a new, free program available to visitors to Athens. It is staffed by volunteer Athenians who are excited to show you “their city” and all it has to offer. For more information on Athens Locals see below.

Who are the “This is my Athens” Athens Locals?

• Athenians over the age of 18 who love and know their city
• Athenians who live in different parts of the city
• Athenians who are open-minded, cultured, friendly and are excited to share their knowledge of Athens and its many charms with visitors
• Athens Locals speak English and in some instances, additional languages
• Athens Locals are volunteers. They are not professional official licensed tour guides specializing in the history, architecture or cultural heritage of Athens

«Travellers planning a trip to Athens, are encouraged to apply online for a “This is My Athens” personal “showing around town” with an Athens Local.

Step 1

Just fill out the “Meet an Athens Local” registration form at least 72 hours prior to your arrival date.

Step 2

«This is My Athens» team at Athens Tourism and Economic Development Company (ATEDCO) matches you with an Athens Local that best fits the criteria of interests and, based on availability, will schedule a meeting.

Step 3

Visitor is informed (via email) of the details. Including date and time, name and contact information of the Athens Local and meeting point (note: meeting points are one of the Athens Tourism and Economic Development Company’s info points or metro stations).

This is My Athens Policies & Procedures

• Your application must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to date of arrival
• Contact information for place of residence at home and while in Athens is required
• The walk around Athens with an Athens Local lasts two (2) hours and may continue if both parties agree
• The Athens Local may bring along another local, friend and/or relative along, unless specified otherwise by the visitor in the application form
• The Athens Local may meet with one (1) and up to 6 individuals (max) at a time
• Each person is responsible for his or her own expenses (ex. food, drink, transportation, entrance fees, etc.)
• “This is My Athens” is a free program and has a no tipping policy
• The Athens Local has the right to end the visit prematurely if the visitor does not show or does not adhere to customary good conduct
