Every night volunteers from the Norwegian and Swedish Church abroad offer water to young tourists on the streets of Ayia Napa. This week The Norwegian Ambassador to Cyprus, Sjur Larsen, joined the volunteers on one of their nightly excursions.
Many young Norwegians are on vacation in Ayia Napa on Cyprus these days. Late at night, going from one bar to another, a cold glass of water is much appreciated. Every night, in the middle of the bar district, volunteers from the Norwegian and Swedish Church abroad hand out water to the people passing by. Tuesday night this week some of the young tourists received water from Sjur Larsen, the Norwegian Ambassador to Cyprus.
After a long night – the volunteers stay put until 3:00 am – the Ambassador made the following comment: “This was truly an experience! Many of the young had drunk a lot of alcohol, but the atmosphere was good. It’s nice to see that most of these youngsters watch out for each other. They were all happy to get a glass of water, and several came back for more. It’s evident that this service, offered by the volunteers of the Norwegian Church Abroad, is both important and appreciated”.
